Greater Latrobe Hosts District Band

Greater Latrobe Hosts District Band

Each year all students in concert band have the choice to apply to be in District band. Once in district band, students attend the hosting school to practice and perform. Those who perform well at district band then get to perform at region band, and those who perform well at region band get to perform at all state band.

“Listening to the rehearsal process is one my favorite parts. Students are playing on a higher level with others in the area with challenging music. It is interesting seeing those who can face that challenge,” said Greater Latrobe band director, Mr. Sheridan.

This year, approximately 125 students from 34 different schools in the Pittsburgh area attended district band. With seven representing students, Greater Latrobe hosted this year’s district band like several years in the past.

The band festival was held on Thursday, January 8, and Friday, January 9 in the senior high auditorium. Prior to the start of the festival on Thursday, auditions for regional band was held Wednesday evening. The auditions were blind auditions, meaning the judges couldn’t see the students.

On Friday, at the dinner that was provided to the students, the audition results were revealed. Two Greater Latrobe students,  sophomore Jacob Lubic, and senior Mara Lejune got accepted into Region band. The Region band festival will be held February 11, 12, and 13 at Hickory High School in Hermitage, PA.
