The senior luncheon is an annual student council event. It’s a beautiful event filled with florals, family and new friendships. The CSC (Center for Student Creativity) was decorated flawlessly by student council members. Each table matched with a spring colored runner, mirror, and floral arrangement. The guests are also strategically placed between student council members and guests invited. Mrs Houck and Mr. Marker, student council advisors, plan to make sure the scene is beautiful and well planned.
I am sitting with my grandma, Marge Denning, whom I also invited in the past year. Last year, the event was just as special. I sat with multiple other student council members at a full table. It was my first time at the event, and I was in awe of the perfectly placed decor and beautiful cupcakes. It was cool to see the CSC decked out in spring colors and florals but more importantly, to see the beaming faces of all the guests invited.
The event started off with the guests being escorted into the building by some student council members then joining the representatives at their table. Luke Bulebosh, student council president, kicked the event off with a speech that embarked on the history and shared love the community and student council has for this event. and then some choir members sang a ballad themed with Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood that started the event off in a special way that makes the community proud. They performed songs about love and how grateful they are that our guests are our “friends” which is a great message for the event because it’s all about the relationships weve built and cherishing them.
The guests then sat down to eat a delicious meal catered by Chick-fil-A. But it wasn’t about what was served or the process, it was about bonding with the people we love, and strengthening our intergenerational relationships and learning about our people.
I love this event. It is truly so special to sit down and eat a nice meal with the people you love. However, this year my table is expanding. With the addition of my brother, who is a freshman this year to the student council, he and my grandpa, Audley Denning, will also be spending the afternoon with us. My guests have been by my side throughout my whole life and supported me endlessly. I love them very much and am grateful to have them in my life. So extending an invitation to them was an extremely easy decision.
The piano played softly with beautiful keys and songs performed by Finley Hartman, a freshman at the high school.
I find it so memorable being able to sit down with my grandparents and talk and learn from them. I enjoyed more about them and what they are up to. We talked about everything from our sporting events to college, to cupcake flavours. They told us many stories from their youth and rebellions that made laughter flow and created a perfect environment.
My brother, Drew, also enjoyed his time stating,”I really enjoyed my time today, it was pretty cool to hear all of their stories.”
During my time at the event my grandma said to me, “I had a wonderful time with you today, I am so glad that you invited me.” While it might not seem like much of a comment, hearing the sincerity and thankfulness in her voice made my day. I appreciate moments like this, seeing the pure joy and bliss on the faces of touched family members and friends. Hearing the laughter in the air, and the heavy conversation. To see everyone relaxing, catching up, and enjoying the company of their peers was something to be admired.
