Ice Cream Galore

As temperatures rise and school dies down, people tend to crave a cold, sweet treat. Fortunately, Latrobe is home to several exceptional ice cream shops. No matter your ice cream standards or opinions, there is a perfect fit for you. Within a two-and-a-half-mile radius in Latrobe, there are three ice cream shops: Cone Zone, Dairy Queen, and Latrobe Meadows’ Custard.

Passing up a hard scoop of Galliker’s ice cream or house-made soft serve in downtown Latrobe is an awful decision. Latrobe Cone Zone is a charming spot for those craving basic hot foods and ice cream. With the variety, Julia’s choice is a classic twist soft-serve in a cup with rainbow sprinkles, and Brooke’s is a chocolate milkshake. Prices are fairly inexpensive, which is a plus for anyone looking to enjoy a treat without breaking the bank. The place is open until 8 PM, giving you plenty of time to stop by. While the variety is average, the young staff adds a friendly vibe to the experience. Keep in mind that there’s no indoor seating, so you’ll be enjoying your food and ice cream outdoors. Overall, it’s a nice, Latrobe-specific spot to grab a quick bite or a sweet treat.

Latrobe Dairy Queen, established in 1970, is a beloved chain that specializes in ice cream products. Renowned for its delectable blizzards and dip cones, it offers reasonably priced treats. Julia’s favorite is a basic cookie dough blizzard made with chocolate ice cream priced at $3.79, and Brooke’s is the triple chocolate brownie blizzard at $3.79. While the selection is somewhat limited, the establishment remains open until 9 PM, making it an ideal destination for late-night indulgence. The youthful staff contributes to a vibrant atmosphere, but it’s worth noting that there’s no indoor seating—only outdoor options are available. As a national chain, it combines a familiar charm with local appeal.

Latrobe Meadows Custard opened in June 2023 and has quickly become a favorite spot for dessert lovers. The custard is the standout item, made unique by its delightful coffee addition and refreshing Italian ice. With a medium-to-expensive price range, the menu supplies many options that cater to different tastes. Although biased, Julia’s favorite is a cup of chocolate custard with brownie bites, a small being $5.30, and Brooke’s choice is the chocolate raspberry truffle custard, chocolate custard with raspberry sauce and chocolate chips, a small is $4.30. The establishment offers both indoor and outdoor seating, providing a comfortable atmosphere for guests. As a local chain, it brings the community a fresh and inviting experience.
