Fabrics are woven and sewn into intricate designs as Senior Lizzy Heitchue creates a unique work of art. Lizzy is motivated by fashion and curating her perfect look. Fashion is a big inspiration for her, and all she hopes to accomplish in her future.
For as long as she can remember, she has had a passion for fashion. Dating back to when she was around 7 or 8, watching Say Yes to the Dress and Project Runway. “I’ve always liked fashion from a young age, and it’s a way I think people can express themselves and show class. I really like the classy look,” she said.
But not only working with magazines and photos, Lizzy can tie the most mundane objects into works of art. “I like using everything around me. Even if I see, like, a design in a fence that can then be incorporated into an outfit and stuff. I think everything in nature inspires me the most. Natural things, like natural shapes and stuff like that,” she shared.
Lizzy collects inspiration from everything, often tying her pieces to nature. That’s one of her biggest inspirations. Constantly surrounding herself with positive environments makes her feel most like herself.
She even expresses herself during the school day in the fabric arts class. Fabric arts is a year-round class that teaches students how to sew and create fashion and different projects. It pushes students to work outside the box while learning new skills. Lizzy is now named president of the fabric arts club, stepping into the role this year. The previous president was Mia Meyers, who helped co-start the club alongside Lizzy.
Her favorite original creation is a stunning gold matching set with a beautiful design covering it. The set consists of a skirt and a matching top showcasing her vast creative ability. Lizzy designed it to wear on her beach vacation this year, and it turned heads. Lizzy also plans to design and create her own prom dress. It will be a gorgeous green silk gown with beaded embroidery.
But her fashion plans don’t end there; she will continue to chase her dreams at the collegiate level. “I’m going to Kent State University for fashion, design, and merchandising. So I’m double-majoring, that’s going to be really fun,” shared Lizzy.
She also looks up to people in the industry for inspiration. “ My fashion role model is Christian Siriano, just because he won Project Runway in 2007 when he was 18 years old. That just shows that anyone of any age can be just as good as anyone else in the fashion industry, and now, at about 36, he’s still doing what he loves,” said Lizzy.
Lizzy strives to do her best outside of fashion as well, being an instructor at the New Workout studio, Drip Spin Studio. While doing this, she is also involved in volleyball as well as working at Elegant Catering. While working to balance a busy schedule, she still stays involved with her passions. “I was going nonstop with everything, especially volleyball, since it was every day, but I loved all of it. I love both my jobs and volleyball and especially designing so I always made time even if it was late at night or early in the morning,” shared Lizzy.
With her hard work ethic, drive, and skill, her future is bright. Be on the lookout for Lizzy Heitchue, and coming designer who is turning heads.
