On Saturday, October 11, students of GLSD filed under the pavilion at Idlewild for this year’s Homecoming dance. Excitement filled the air as students, grades nine through twelve, danced the night away. The anticipation had been building all week, with a movie-inspired spirit week planned by Pep Club. This year’s spirit week themes were Men in Black (Aliens vs. Agents), The Parent Trap (Twin Day), Back to the Future (Decade Day), The Breakfast Club (Pajama Day), and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (No School). The school rounded off the short week with a Pep Rally on Thursday. At the Pep Rally, the cheerleaders started off the festivities by performing a routine, each fall sports team was recognized, and a teacher-student talent show wrapped up the event.
Before the football game on Friday, Key Club organized the annual Homecoming Parade, which was orange and black themed and honored each member of the Homecoming Court, along with featuring a select number of clubs that decided to participate. These clubs were the Student Council, Interact Club, Letterman’s Club, and High Post/WCAT-TV, and the High Post/WCAT-TV took home the prize of best float. After the parade, students and fans alike filled the stadium to watch the Wildcats take on Pine Richland. Unfortunately, the Cats were unable to come away with a win, falling to the Rams 43-7.
The week of Homecoming festivities culminated in the dance held on the evening of Saturday, October 11. Adorned in dazzling dresses and stunning suits, the girls and guys of Greater Latrobe arrived at Idlewild for the Homecoming Dance. There was a wide range of music played by the DJ, from “Cotton Eye Joe” by Rednex to “No Hands” by Roscoe Dash and Waka Flocka Flame, which ensured there was a song for everyone. While dancing was the main activity of the night, students could also enjoy the warmth from the bonfire or grab a treat from the variety of snacks provided.
