The Driver Era is an alternative music duo made up of brothers Ross and Rocky Lynch. They previously had a music group including four of their siblings and a family friend called R5. Ross Lynch also acts. We as a generation watched some of his most famous projects that include Austin & Ally, Teen Beach Movie, and My Friend Dahmer.
Born in Colorado the Lynch family moved to LA to pursue the kids’ dreams. Ross and Rocky Lynch started the band in 2018. With the band’s sixth tour, “Obsession” the new album will be released on April 11, 2025.
My good friend Brooke and I got the opportunity to buy tickets for their show at Robert Morris University. We splurged for “The Driver Era: Soundcheck & Q&A VIP package with Ross and Rocky.” The tickets meant we were able to show up early and be there for their soundcheck while they would try and answer some questions. Brooke and I made shirts two days before the concert representing one of their songs. Brooke represented the song “Touch” and I represented the song “Malibu.” We ironed the letters on the front then used puffy paint and markers on the back writing “The Driver Era” with flowers around it.
The line for VIP wasn’t too long with about 40 of us waiting for our time to shine. Most of the VIP ticket holders also had floor seats but we were in the stand. They let us come down to the floor for the soundcheck which was so sweet and kind of the venue staff. We were a few rows back from barricade right in front of Ross and Rocky Lynch.
The Lynch brothers played one of their old songs that wasn’t on the set list for us called “Bronco.” After finishing that song he asked the crowd what to play next and I took it upon myself to yell a song. I screamed “On My Own” which is from the second Teen Beach Movie and he heard me. He replied, “Yeah, we can play ‘On My Own.’” I was so beyond starstruck. My whole body froze up and my legs were shaking. Me and Brooke could not stop screaming from what just happened. The crowd also felt so happy that I asked him to play that.
“On My Own” has a very deep meaning to me. During my freshman and sophomore year I got really close with three great people from my dance competition team. We all became like family to each other and spent every day together. One thing that really brought us close together was music. We discovered the song “On My Own” together and played it every time we were with each other. Then so much changed the next year and every time I hear the song it reminds me of all the happy times when we were hanging out together.
After he played that song some fans asked him about his time on Disney and asked him about his future plans with the band and acting. He said he couldn’t spoil too much but he does want to make a movie after the tour is over.
When the soundcheck was over we went back to our seats and waited for the opener. We had no idea who was going to open up for them but we were excited to see.
Thomas Day stepped up on stage and although we didn’t know who he was, we fell in love with him as soon as he played his first song. His music was uplifting and spoke to us. He brought fire to the stage that flew into the crowd. Everyone was jumping and having a good time. When we heard him, we rushed to our phones to follow him on all of his socials. When we looked more into who he was we realized he is Jules LeBlanc’s boyfriend. Jules LeBlanc was a part of a famous YouTube channel with her family called Bratayley that we grew up watching. It was such a full circle moment.
After Thomas Day played, we waited about a half an hour longer before The Driver Era came out. The crowd was rambunctious as soon as the curtain dropped and revealed the singers with Ross in a bedazzled black suit and Rocky in a comfy graphic tee. They started with all their newest releases from the upcoming album and actually played every song on it.
They also played some of their most popular hits like “A Kiss.” During the song they had a kiss cam that was going around the audience finding couples to show off a smooch. In the middle of the song they had a rock out session with Riker and Rocky’s electric guitars that blew the crowd away.

The brothers played my favourite song “Rumors” which was also my favourite song they performed. There’s a part in the chorus of the song where they yell, emphasizing “Cause I’m on your tongue and it’s just what I want.” During the song everybody was screaming that lyric which made the concert even more of a party.
Ross and Rocky also brought their other two brothers along with them for the concert. It made me happy to see that they got to do this big production all together. Their older brother Riker Lynch played guitar on stage and he brought the energy. He was jumping up, down, and all around living his best life.
When the concert ended and we walked back to the car we could only think about when we were going to see them again whether it’s in Philadelphia, PA or Boston, MA during June. It was a very long day of waiting and patience but it was all worth it. One big reason I love concerts is that the experience brings everyone together. No one is complaining or thinking about problems when Ross Lynch is right in front of them. It’s a time to let loose and have fun with your friends and even strangers. Nobody brings politics or disagreements into the environment. We’re all there to sing our hearts out and dance our shoes off.
