Boys Basketball:
The Boys Basketball team traveled to Moon to take on the Tigers on February 24th for the WPIAL Consolation bracket, the boys defeated the Tigers 62-50. For their next game in the bracket, the team faced Uniontown on February 26th and lost 38-69. On March 7th, the boys traveled to Reading to take on Exeter Township. The Cats defeated the Eagles, 64-58, which is the team’s first State Playoff Victory in 38 years. With this win, Coach Wetzel recorded his 300th victory as head coach.
Hockey:
On February 27th, the Hockey team defeated Armstrong with a score of 6-1. On March 3, the Ice Cats faced off against Hempfield in the first round of the PIHL 2A Penguins Cup Playoffs. The team came out on top, beating the Spartans 7-3.
Girls Swimming:
On February 27th and 28th, the Girls Swimming team competed in the WPIAL Championships. On Thursday, the Girls 200 Medley Relay, consisting of Izzy Hough, Beth Cratty, Hannah Carasia, and Maggie Elder, placed eighth, Lauren Bell finished second in the 100 Butterfly, and the Girls 200 Freestyle Relay took home third, members of this relay were Lauren Bell, Destini Homan, Hannah Carasia, and Maggie Elder. On Friday, Lauren brought home another medal, with her third-place finish in the 100 Freestyle and the 400 Freestyle Relay, made up of Maggie Elder, Destini Homan, Hannah Carasia, and Lauren Bell, placed second.
Boys Swimming:
On February 27th and 28th, the Boys Swimming team competed in the WPIAL Championships. On Thursday, in the 50 Free Chris Heese placed fourth and Charlie Thomson took home fifth. The Boys 200 Free Relay, consisting of Chris Heese, Patrick Cratty, Heinrich Van Der Westhuizen, and Charlie Thomson, placed second, setting a new school record in the process. On Friday, Charlie Thomson placed fourth and Patrick Cratty placed sixth in the 100 Freestyle, the Boys 400 Freestyle Relay, made up of Patrick Cratty, Chris Heese, Heinrich Van Der Westhuizen, and Charlie Thomson, placed second, breaking a school record, and Chris Heese was named WPIAL Champion in the 100 Breaststroke, with his time setting a new school record.
Boys Wrestling:
On February 28th, select Boys Wrestlers traveled to Canon McMillan to compete in the West AAA Regionals. Luke Willochell and Leo Joseph placed second and Hunter Snyder took home fourth. On March 6th, the wrestlers headed to Hershey for the PIAA Championship. Leo Joseph finished his senior season with a fourth-place finish, and Hunter Snyder brought home third. Luke Willochell wrapped his high school wrestling career with a second-place finish.
Girls Wrestling:
On March 1st, select Girls Wrestlers traveled to North Allegheny to compete in the West AAA Regionals. These girls included Lili Maxwell, Rowen Lewis, Elizabeth Kantoris, and Gabby Roman. Unfortunately, none of these wrestlers placed.
