A Look Behind the Mask
2020 started off strong, I was a freshman in my first year of high school. Life was great, I was playing high school softball, getting good grades, seeing friends every day, being with friends and family on weekends, the normal fifteen year- old teenage girl things. Everything was great, until March 13, 2020. My team and I were getting concussion tested for our upcoming season when my mom called and said we would be off for two weeks. We knew there was a virus going around but didn’t know it had become severe here. We were excited for a short break from school. Little did we know, that “short break” would still be happening exactly one year later. So as I am sitting here, March 13, 2021, a sixteen-year-old teenage girl no longer doing regular teenage girl things, it’s time to “look behind the mask” at my growth over this hectic year.
Though 2020 was the craziest year yet, I am thankful for the growth I had over this time. Here’s to 2021 being even better and growing even more as a person and a community.
