Sometimes a single visit is all it takes to know you have found the right place. “I took an athletic and academic visit, which the coach had set up for me. I got to meet the professors I would have had, as well as having lunch with the field hockey team. Everyone was super nice and friendly, and just made me feel at home. It was a really great tour, and it just made me fall in love with the school even more,” said senior Macy Schultz.
Division 3 commit, Macy Schultz, first decided she wanted to try field hockey going into her freshman year. “My friends Sara Blossey and Julia Macey wanted to try it out together. Sara’s older sister, Belle Blossey, played, so she inspired us to try it,” said Schultz. What started as a thought quickly turned into a passion for her. After finishing her first season, she quickly realized she had found a new love for the sport.
As a freshman, Macy started playing field hockey as a junior varsity player. This got her learning the rules of the game and becoming more comfortable while playing. By sophomore year, Macy was playing on varsity, getting more experience on the field. She often stayed after practice to get extra reps in and ran to stay conditioned. She has put in countless hours of hard work to get to where she is today in her field hockey career.
Throughout her high school career, Macy did not think about playing in college until her senior year. “Coach Lauren inspired me the most to play at the college level. She was always encouraging me that I could, and giving me information that was super helpful throughout the process.” Macy had then reached out to coaches and talked to them about the program. Aftergreat conversations, Macy felt very comfortable, and that’s when she realized it was the right place for her.
Not only are Macy’s athletics a big deal, but so are her academics. When she attended the visit to her future sports field, she loved Saint Francis’s academics as well. While she was there, she got to meet professors and talk to them about what the school offers. She plans to major in exercise physiology, pre-med track. When she graduates, her goal is to end up doing prosthetics.
During this whole process, Macy has had a great support system. “My parents are definitely my biggest supporters. They are both really into sports, and they always encourage me to do my best. They will sometimes get on me a little bit, but it’s not negative, it’s just to make me better,” said Schultz.
Macy’s commitment to Saint Francis marks a new and exciting chapter in her athletic and academic career. Her dedication, work ethic, and passion have brought her to this moment, and she’s ready to embrace the opportunities and challenges that wait for her at the next level. Saint Francis is not only gaining a talented athlete, but a leader on and off the field. This is just the start of everything she is going to accomplish.
