At Greater Latrobe High School, singing grams have become a beloved tradition, especially around Valentine’s Day. The excitement kicks off as students eagerly purchase these unique musical messages, eagerly anticipating their delivery to friends, crushes, or even teachers. The air is filled with an electrifying sense of mystery and curiosity, as students wonder who will receive the next surprise gram and who might be behind the thoughtful (or mischievous) gesture. The tradition, a mix of humor, excitement, and affection, never fails to bring the entire school together in a shared moment of joy.

In the days leading up to the event, the halls are filled with anticipation, and rumors. Whispers about who bought which gram, who is receiving one, and most intriguingly, who is sending them anonymously keep students on edge. The cafeteria becomes the epicenter of speculation, with students huddling together to try to guess the identities of the secret admirers or admirers-in-disguise. Some students go all in, purchasing grams for their crushes or friends with a proud declaration of affection, while others keep their cards blank, hoping to add a little extra intrigue by remaining anonymous. The blend of open admiration and secret gestures of affection fuels an almost palpable sense of mystery, turning the days leading up to Valentine’s Day into a thrilling game of romantic uncertainty.

Then, the morning of Valentine’s Day arrives, and the excitement reaches its peak. The school choir, dressed in a vibrant sea of pinks and reds, assembles to deliver the much-anticipated musical messages. As a group, they move from classroom to classroom, bringing the tunes of love and laughter to every corner of the school. Each recipient, who has no idea they will be the star of the show, is treated to a public serenade in front of their entire class. The blend of surprise, embarrassment, and joy that lights up their faces is always priceless. It’s the kind of moment that can make even the most confident student feel a little shy, but it’s always done in the spirit of fun and good-natured humor.

This heartwarming tradition, which has been a part of Greater Latrobe for years, has become a cherished experience for both the students and the choir. For the choir members, it offers a fun opportunity to share their love of music while spreading joy and laughter to their peers. Singing grams have become more than just a holiday event; they’ve become a symbol of the fun and unity that makes Greater Latrobe High School a special place. It’s an experience everyone looks forward to, a moment of collective joy that transcends the usual school routine, reminding everyone that sometimes the simplest gestures can leave the most lasting memories.

Abigail Milyak is currently a senior at Greater Latrobe High School. This is her first year on The High Post staff. Abigail is a member of the Interact club and Key club. She is eager to take pictures, write stories, and learn new things. She believes the skills she will gain and learn will be incredibly important and useful to her throughout life. When Abigail is not at school or with friends you can find her at her job working at MB Prom as a stylist. This job not only allows her to express her creativity but teaches her important life skills that she can carry into her future career. After high school Abigail plans to attend a four year college, where she intends to major in Early Childhood Education. She is so excited to be a member of the High Post staff this year and be able to write meaningful stories that convey what is going on at Greater Latrobe. Abigail is thrilled to be a part of the High Post staff this year, as it gives her the opportunity to write meaningful stories that reflect what is happening at Greater Latrobe. She can’t wait to begin covering the schools events.

Lucy Blycheck, Staff Writer

Lucy Blycheck is a senior at Greater Latrobe High School. She is excited to start her first year on The High Post Team! She is thrilled to be able to share stories about what is happening in the community or at school. Lucy likes to take photos and make things known of what’s going on around the school (sporting events, dances, etc.). She is involved with Key and Interact Club, she is also involved in the Quill and Scroll Honors Society. Lucy plans to attend college and major in Business and minor in Interior design. She is undecided on where she wants to attend college but her top pick is West Virginia University. Lucy is also taking classes at the Westmoreland Community College during her senior year of high school. She plans to get her realtor license before starting college. When Lucy has free time she loves to spend time with her family and friends. She has three sisters, Abigail, Grace, and Mary, she also has two dogs, Teddy and Fenway. When she is with friends she loves to go shopping and just hangout. She loves to travel during the summer and explore new places. Lucy is thrilled to be part of the staff for the High Post, eager to get to know others better, and excited to share their stories.
