Kate Wolford embraces her Senior year.

As graduation is on the horizon many high school seniors find themselves with a case of senioritis.

The first of one being excitement for change and things ahead. Most students already have their school or job lined up for next year and are ready for the next step in their lives. Therefore, putting in countless hours into homework and studying may not be as appetizing as it once was before when they were working for good grades to apply to college, now that most people are already accepted they can take a step back.

However, this does not apply to everyone. Senior Kate Wolford, who is attending Susquehanna University, majoring in secondary education and biology. When asked if she had caught a case of senioritis said, ¨I simply can not catch a case. I have to keep my grades up to keep my scholarship.¨

Wolford has been awarded the president’s scholarship which is awarded to new students at the university who have demonstrated superior academic achievement and personal promise.

Wolford agrees that as graduation is coming into view many seniors do lose focus in their schoolwork and start to focus more on their social lives. Wolford continues to stay focused on her schoolwork.

Wolford said, ¨I think I am most excited about going to sixth-grade camp.¨

Sixth-grade camp is a tradition that runs deep at Greater Latrobe. With now covid being over many students are eager to help younger Wildcats have a great camp experience. Juniors and seniors have this privilege.

Prom can also be a contributing factor. Signs in the hallways have already been posted for the big night. Prom! The prom will be on Friday, May 10.

Many girls have even already begun shopping for the perfect dress. Wolford said, ¨ It’s just always a lot of fun to get dressed up and go out with friends and with this being my senior year I am just really excited.¨

Overall,  many emotions can come with graduation coming into sight like anxiousness, nostalgia, happiness, and many others. However, with this being said it is important for seniors to try their best and stay focused on their school work with all these other activities happening around them. Doing this is good practice for college and individuals going into the workforce.

Ways to help combat senioritis.

  • Go out to dinner with friends.
  • Stay up late.
  • Enjoy the last couple of months of youth and make memories to last a lifetime.
