Book Review: Under the Never Sky
“And in life, at least her new life, chances were the best she could hope for. They were like her rocks. Imperfect and surprising and maybe better in the long run than certainties. Chances, she thought, WERE life.” The NEW YORK TIMES Bestselling Author Veronica Rossi writes an inspiring novel Under the Never Sky, which explores how chances are what make a life worth living.
This novel will take readers into a world unlike any other; a world divided by those inside the pods and those left on the outside. Years ago Pods were created as a safe haven for many people on the Earth after Aether, viciously-charge storms that forced people into isolated Pods in order to escape the harsh outside living conditions. But there wasn’t enough room for everyone in the Pods and many were left to fend for themselves under the Aether; some of the people who did stay outside eventually evolved superior sense such as stronger sense of hearing, seeing, and smelling.
Suddenly and unexpectedly Aria, a young girl with black hair and a voice like an angel, is tossed out of her Pod and into the outside where everything is dangerous and unlike anything Aria has ever known. Aria got caught in an Aether storm and luckily ran into Perry, a strong, tall hunter with an extremely strong sense of smell. Perry is on a quest to find his nephew, who was taken by researchers from the Pods, and to claim his leadership place in his tribe, the Tides. He helps Aria to a safe cave but each despises the other as soon as they set eyes on each other for Perry hates all Dwellers, those who live inside the Pods, and Aria hates all Outsiders, those who live outside the Pods..
Despite passionate hatred, they both need something from the other and the two form an unlikely alliance. Setting out on a journey to reunite Aria with her mother and Perry with his nephew, they will discover things about themselves they never knew.
Along the way, Aria learns about the mysteries of the outside world while discovering herself under the never sky. As Perry and Aria race to find their place in life, they will face many exciting, action-packed challenges that will immediately catch the reader’s attention.
Although the novel begins slowly, and may seem confusing at first, as readers plunge into the heart of this book things will become clear and the true theme of the book will be revealed. Veronica Rossi dives deep into a story of choices, adventure, survival, love and chances. No reader will be disappointed in this captivating story that encourages people to embrace that which is different and acknowledge the beauty even during the worst of times. This novel explores many themes and the details provide an excellent movie in your mind. A truly great book with unforgettable characters, Under the Never Sky will definitely be one that readers will want to read over and over.
