Recently Greater Latrobe Capstone students toured Pleasant Lane Farms in Unity Township. After a brief discussion of the genetics behind farming and the cheese making process they began the tour. Starting with a robot milking machine, students observed several cows go through the milking process. Then students were able to go into a modern barn, starting with pregnant cows and then moving to cows that are currently being milked. Finally, students visited the young calves, some as young as 3 days old, as well as sheep, baby goats, and baby pigs. From Patrick Roberts, Senior High Capstone teacher, “Thank you to Jason and Todd of Pleasant Lane Farms for their hospitality.”
