Boys Basketball:
The Boys Basketball team is on a hot streak, winning 10 of their last 11 games. On January 6th, the boys beat Penn Trafford 53-50. The Cats built upon this win with a dominant 68-49 win against the Franklin Regional Panthers on January 8th. To wrap up the week’s play, on January 10th, the team fought hard against McKeesport, battling to their eighth straight win, 67-63, in overtime. On January 15th, the boys continued their win streak with a 68-57 victory over Albert Gallatin. In the first quarter of this game, Max Butler scored his 1,000th point on a lay-up. As Max joined his three older brothers, they became the first set of four brothers in WPIAL history to each score 1,000 points. On January 17th, the boys defended their home court, defeating Gateway, 66-56.
Girls Basketball:
The Girl’s Basketball team has a current record of 8-6 this season. On January 8th, the Girls Basketball team faced a tough loss against Indiana 44-48. The girls were able to bounce back, defeating Greensburg Salem 54-46, on January 9th. The team built upon this win on January 17th, with a strong showing against West Mifflin, beating the Titans 68-18.
Hockey:
The Hockey team currently has a 12-2 record and over the past two weeks, the Ice Cats allowed zero goals to be scored against them. On January 9th, the team continued their win streak, defeating Hempfield 4-0. On January 13th, the boys recorded another shut-out win against Baldwin, 5-0, this win secured the Ice Cats tenth straight win.
Girls Swimming:
The Girls Swimming team has won their last four meets and have a 7-1 record. On January 8th, the girls beat Derry 97-83 and on January 9th, the team defeated Kiski 91-87. On January 13th, the girls were victorious once again, taking down Penn Trafford 97-84. On January 17th, the girls beat Connellsville, 91-64.
Boys Swimming:
The Boys Swimming team has a 6-3 record overall. On January 8th, the Boys Swimming team took down Derry with a dominant 74-45 win. The next day, on January 9th, the boys were also able to come out on top against Kiski, 91-85. Continuing their winning ways, the boys beat Penn Trafford 95-69, on January 13th. The team was able to build off this success and on January 17th, they beat Connellsville 93-78.
Boys Wrestling:
On January 8th, the Boys Wrestling team hosted Albert Gallatin for their senior night, winning 66-12. A few days later, on January 10th, the boys competed in the WCCA tournament and took home 6th place as a team. Luke Willochell and Leo Joseph both took home first place for the Wildcats. With these finishes, Leo became a two-time county champion and Luke became a four-time county champion, and the second Latrobe wrestler to achieve this milestone. Luke also reached 100 pins after he pinned his opponent in the championship match. On January 15th, the wrestlers were able to come out on top yet again, defeating Hempfield 47-25.
Girls Wrestling:
Over the past two weeks, Girls Wrestling has continued to make history. On January 8th, the girls got their first home victory over Southmoreland, 36-35. On January 11, the team placed 2nd in the WCCA Tournament and Gabby Roman was the first Latrobe girls wrestler to be named Westmoreland County Coaches Association champion. Lili Maxwell and Miranda Kantoris also received first place in the tournament.
