Greater Latrobe Capstone students recently toured Westmoreland Cleanways in Unity Township. Natalie
Reese walked the students through the facility, explaining how the recycling process works at each stage. The
recycling center takes various colors of glass, plastics, cardboard, used tires, electronics, and more. Students
were able to use machines that melt styrofoam, bales cardboard, and more. According to Capstone teacher
Patrick Roberts, “We are lucky in Westmoreland County to have a recycling facility that is able to reduce the
negative impacts of garbage on the environment.”
