The Greater Latrobe Capstone class ended their season of beekeeping with a harvest of honey.
The students have been monitoring the hives, and in mid October, they harvested their honey.
Capstone teacher, Mr. Patrick Roberts, collected the frames and brought them into the
classroom for harvesting. Unfortunately the handle on the extractor failed so the students had
to harvest by hand. According to Mr. Roberts, they did a great job and extracted almost 300 oz
of honey. All students took honey home and the rest was distributed around the District and the
community. Thank you to the Latrobe Rotary Club for their grant allowing this project to take
place and to beekeeper Nancy Thorne for her support. They are looking forward to next season!
