On October 8th Capstone students visited Powdermill Nature Reserve. Early in the morning students
participated in a bird banding program that has banded over 800,000 birds in its history. They observed a bird
flight tunnel used to test various types of glass designed to limit in-flight bird collisions, a huge problem in
urban areas. They also reviewed a situation based on invasive species and devised a plan to solve a
hypothetical local issue. Finally, students took a hike to birdwatch, search for salamanders and insects, and
enjoy a beautiful fall day.
