The GLSD Art Conservation Trust will proudly host the Art Gala on November 14, 2024, at the Greater Latrobe Senior
High School. This annual fundraiser supports the work of the Art Trust to oversee and care for the art collections of the
Greater Latrobe School District. These collections are generated from the creative spirit of two imaginative teachers.
James R. Beatty and Mary Martha Himler, who wanted their students to actively experience art, are among the finest
collections of original Southwestern Pennsylvania art. They are unique in that they are entirely student-selected and, for
the most part, student-purchased.
The honoree for this year’s Art Gala is Latrobe’s Chief of Police, Richard M. Bosco. Chief Bosco graduated from Greater
Latrobe in 1975 before joining the Marines, returning to Latrobe to become a patrolman in the local police force for five
years. For the next 23 years, he worked as a Special Agent for the Bureau of Narcotics under the office of the
Pennsylvania Attorney General. He then became the Chief of Police of Lincoln Borough. Following retirement, he
accepted the position of Chief of Police in Latrobe. After his swearing-in, he said, “It’s great to be home.” We are all
grateful that he is home and bringing his skills and warmth to the Greater Latrobe community.
The beautiful works of art under consideration for student vote are on display during the Art Gala in the Center for Student
Creativity. Senior High Student Council members have borrowed works from The Latrobe Art Center’s Mister Fred
Rogers Fine Arts Juried Exhibition. Student representatives from the junior high school and the three elementary schools
choose works to borrow from The Latrobe Art Center to take back to their schools for student vote. There will be four
gourmet food stations, music from the Jazz Ensemble, and wonderful student docent presentations that will tell you all
about the works under consideration for the high school and what was purchased by the elementary and junior high
schools last year.
The inspiration for this year’s decorations is the painting “Ligonier Street Looking South” by William M. Hoffman, Jr. which
was acquired in 2017. Art Gala tickets are $35 per person, and there are additional opportunities to join the Latrobe One
Hundred Friends of Art to further support the mission of the GLSD Art Conservation Trust. To learn more or join the
