Greater Latrobe Capstone students recently surveyed Nine Mile Run at Rotary Park. Students caught crayfish,
mayflies, caddisflies, hellgrammites, diving beetles, dragonfly nymphs, darter minnows, and much more. After
learning that certain organisms can indicate the health of the stream, students understood that the stream is
healthy and the organisms are thriving. This is because of the dedication and hard work of previous Capstone
classes which installed stream bank structures to improve the health of the stream.
