For high school seniors, choosing to commit to a college to play their sports at the next level is a huge deal. It shows all their hard work and dedication has paid off. These students have spent years training and competing, and now they are ready to take their skills in college. It’s an exciting time as they look forward to new opportunities and challenges in their athletic careers.
Senior Lauren Bell committed over the summer to Marshall University to continue her swimming career. She said, “I chose Marshall for a number of reasons, the girls on the team and the team atmosphere.” The team had her really interested in the school but the number one reason for choosing that school to continue her academic and athletic career was the coach. Marshall University checked off all of Laurens boxes. She said “they have the program I want to pursue in college, a walkable campus,a good distance from home, and an amazing swimming team.” Lauren is super excited for this next step in her future but she is definitely most excited to “train with a team that has the same goals and outlook on swimming as I do.”
Senior Ashley Deniker committed recently to Slippery Rock University to continue her volleyball career. Ashley not only loved the volleyball program they had but also the “incredible occupation therapy program they have”. Ashley said she had an opportunity to play with the team, she said “the coaches were very supportive and the girls are all super kind and encouraging.” A pro for her choosing this school was “the exercise medicine program is for 5 or 6 years ” they have for her to continue what she wants to pursue. Ashley is looking forward to “bettering my volleyball IQ” and to becoming “a faster player on the court.”
Senior John Wetzel committed to Marshall University, a Division 1 school to continue his football career. John chose this school because he said “that coaching staff was supportive and welcoming.” The defensive style they play aligns perfectly with his skills, making it an ideal fit for him. He’s most looking forward to playing football at the college level and can’t wait to take on new challenges and opportunities with the team.
Senior Luke Willochell committed to the University of Wyoming, a division 1 school to continue his wrestling career. He loved the environment and can’t wait to get out there and explore everything the campus and community have to offer. Luke is particularly excited for practices with his new team and bonding with them all. Luke was also very impressed with the “attentive coaching staff and is beyond excited for next year.”
