In 2020 Miss Quinn thought it was her last year at the high school. Miss Quinn is new to the GLHS staff in the office. But, she is not new to this school. She graduated from the school in 2020. Miss Quinn was super involved all throughout her years at the high school.
Miss Quinn started her new job this past summer. She works a lot with attendance for the students. In past years the office had Chromebook’s to sign out and in on and this year Miss Quinn gets to talk face to face with students coming and going. “I get a chance to learn from all the students.” She loves getting to see her old classmates’ siblings and bond through that. She also dealt with all the parking passes and dealt with the “Painting a Parking Spot” for the seniors. Miss Quinn also coaches the varsity volleyball team.
She was very excited to go on so many fun adventures including the NHS trip, prom, and 6th grade camp counselor. Miss Quinn was playing volleyball and track then for it to get cut short was very upsetting for her. She remembers exactly where she was when she was told they would be off for the next two weeks. “It was the middle of practice, Friday the 13th,” Then those two weeks turned into a few months. Now that she reflects on it she talks about how she doesn’t really think about it and how it was all a blur. “One thing I think about is how we were one of the only schools that got a graduation.” Miss Quinn was so happy that she got an actual graduation when other schools were doing drive through graduation. “I loved how much everybody joined the community and came together.” Said Miss Quinn.
Miss Quinn’s senior year was not the same as most. “At the time it seemed extremely devastating.” Miss Quinn talked about how much of a great experience she had with her classmates even through an awkward time with the pandemic. She talks about how everyone helped out for graduation and pulled through for the class making it such a special time.
Miss Quinn was also a co-editor in chief of The High Post. She worked on more of the layout side on the staff and said she learned a lot from this experience. Miss Quinn worked very hard with her fellow members to be able to put out as many paper covers as she could. She got very inspired from looking at different magazines and pulling out bits and pieces here and there.
Miss Quinn talked about how Mrs. Stallings sparked her love for the website. “She taught me in a study hall in my sophomore year and then after that I was in The High Post for the next two years.” She emphasises how much of an impact Mrs. Stallings had on her from pushing her to new limits and trying many new things. She loved getting the ability to put her creativity into play with turning other people’s work into The High Post. Miss Quinn recommends all students to try out The High Post. “It definitely prepares you for after high school.” She exclaims how much you learn from this class and how there is a position for everyone in it with such a comforting feeling.
Miss Quinn graduated Indiana University of Pennsylvania in marketing and absolutely loved it. “I loved IUP, I would say if anyone could go, you should.” She talked about how great the campus was and how many opportunities she was given. Especially for branching out and meeting new people. She joined a sorority her freshman year, became treasurer sophomore year and eventually became president of it her junior year. She was incharge of 40 girls that were in the sorority. She also had four meetings a week and ran her chapters which are basically formal meetings. “It was the best leadership skill I’ve learned.” Said Miss Quinn.
Miss Quinn had a very interesting experience as president. She got to fly down to Florida for the “Convention”. She met all the other presidents in her sorority which was over 300 people. She learned how to work with people and work in awkward situations. Miss Quinn found college very different with having to make your own circle of friends and how much bigger everything was. She also joined many clubs to keep busy and would volunteer for almost everything. Miss Quinn learned leadership skills and preparedness for the outside world.
Miss Quinn loves her job very much from getting to bond with all the students to learning new skills. She saw an opening and knew it was the right call. Her love for her high school years brought her back to the environment.
