Every October Greater Latrobe athletes and their supporters don pink to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Pinktober has been a long-standing tradition with the month’s purpose being to bring attention to the importance of screening for and early awareness of breast cancer.
The den showed out in pink for the Football team’s first game of October. This den theme allowed the students to show their support for the two million women diagnosed with breast cancer each year. (Jason Brandt)The cheerleaders also wore pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month on Friday. The girls wore pink shirts and bows. Cheerleader, Brianna Vesely said, “October to us isn’t just about wearing pink. A lot of us have lost someone to breast cancer or know someone who’s had it, so it touches our hearts and we want to bring awareness to it.” (Leah Olsen)The Cross Country team wears pink ribbons in their hair and pink shoelaces on their feet to support the cause. Runner, Sarah LeVan said, “The Cross Country team wears pink along with many other sports teams, so it’s nice to come together with everybody and participate in something for a good cause.” (Sarah LeVan)The Girls’ Soccer team supports Breast Cancer Awareness with pink warm-ups and pink pre-wrap to match. Midfielder, Emerson Shine said, “We’re supporting all the women who are breast cancer survivors and the women who are going through treatment. Our goal is to bring awareness to the cause.” (Aiden Stairs)The Girls’ Volleyball team also sports pink warm-ups to raise awareness for breast cancer. Outside hitter, Bailey Onifer said, “I love how having a designated pink-out game, and wearing pink all October not only brings the team together but also brings in the coaches and fans from both sides of the court together to support a good cause.” (Gabby Amatucci)
