Cubs take the World Series

For the first time since 1908, the Cubs are World Series champions. “Every series has been a battle and been a grind for us. We played three really good opponents to get here,  and here we stand.  it’s an unbelievable feeling to be a part of this.  You wouldn’t expect it in any other way”, said Jon Lester, a Cubs pitcher.

The Cubs were the preseason favorites to win it all, and they won 103 games to claim the National League Central. Then they defeated  the Giants in the NL Division Series and beat the Dodgers and the NL championship series to reach the World Series against the Cleveland Indians.

The Cleveland Indians had a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series against the Cubs. The Cubs were not willing to quit that easily. They came back from a 3-1 deficit to win six of the seven games on the road. The Cubs were the first ever team to comeback from a 3-1 deficit on the road since the Pirates in 1979.

The Indians down 5 – 1 in game seven, came back to tie the game 6-6 in the eighth inning. A 17- minute rain delay before the 10th inning saved the day.

Outfielder Jason Heyward called the Cubs hitters into the weight room,  and general manager Jed Hoyer watched as the players regrouped. “I think this rain delay was the best thing that could ever happen to us, to be honest” Hoyer said.

The Cubs motto is “ We never quit.” That Is exactly what they follow through with.

As the Cubs were all down in the rain room, they were all getting each other pumped up for the last inning of the World Series.

“ We’re going to win the inning and turn around and be world champions, maybe after 108 years you get some divine intervention” said Heyward. What the Cubs did on Wednesday night and throughout the whole 2016 World Series was just amazing.

The fact that they were down 3-1 in the World Series and did not give up fighting just proves how determined they were to get the win for not only the Cubs fans, but for the old players who all struggled to capture this moment. People who witness this battle will never forget about this moment where the Cubs changed history forever.
