Students Against Destructive Decisions is not only a school club, but a national organization. It encourages students to make smart choices and to avoid the use of drugs and alcohol. Every year, conferences are held in each state to give chapter members new information and ideas to increase the success of their club.

At the 2010 PA SADD Conference, SADD recognized some of its most outstanding chapters. Award categories included Activity of the Year, Chapter of the Year, and Advisor of the Year. To be considered for one of these prestigious awards, the chapter must write a narrative description of their event, chapter, or advisor depending on what award they hope to receive.

On November 4, 2010 at Seven Springs Resort, Greater Latrobe’s SADD club was awarded the Activity of the Year award. SADD club submitted a nomination for their Drive Safe Fair held on May 5-6, 2010. Held in the commons area, SADD club members and Mr. Byers’ health class students teamed up along with the Pennsylvania State Police to create an entertaining and educational fair. Students had the opportunity to make “positive decisions” through hands on activities, peer presentations, video presentations, and pledges to not drive impaired by alcohol, drugs, or cell phones.  This event also included a powerful assembly with guest speaker Bobby Petrocelli.

The GLSHS SADD club looks to continue this event in the future along with many other activities to encourage students to avoid destructive decisions.
