The Reverse Basketball Game is an eagerly anticipated event each year, enjoyed by both students and faculty from Greater Latrobe High School and Ligonier Valley High School. While the event consistently meets expectations and delivers an exceptional experience for people working the event and the attendees, often challenges lurk behind the scenes that are not immediately visible to attendees.
People are not up for the challenge of everything that needs to be done to organize. The Reverse Basketball Game is a lot of hard work and a huge commitment. This year Emma Lippert decided to take over the challenge of this huge event, as she is an officer of Interact Club which is run by Ms.Rogers. All of the officers have different responsibilities as Emma explained, “Our responsibilities are to organize sponsors, games, food, participants, and spread the word about the upcoming game.” Although it may seem the bare minimum on what goes on behind the scenes. More than just trying to get the participants is the hardest part every single year.
In the past years what seems to be the hardest part of the entire event is trying to get enough basketball players and cheerleaders,in reverse roles. In past years, getting the boys to be the cheerleaders has been more difficult. Emma said, “We have 12 boys so far which could change depending on everyone’s busy spring schedules. We hope to bring in more as the word spreads.” Even with having enough boys at this moment, every year the commitment to practice is a challenge. Although no one hopes that will happen this year, but having enough boys and players can never be easy. She said,”We have 7 girls so far which is under how many we need.” For once boys are committed but now girls are needed to play basketball.
Although participation is a difficulty, other factors of difficulty cause stress throughout the entire planning process. Trying to get people to sponsor the event to cover the expenses that are needed for the basketball game to happen is another challenge. Individuals have their opinion on what the most difficult part is, “The time crunch-We’ve been planning this game for months but every small aspect takes so much detail,” said Lippert.
The basketball game as a whole is an amazing experience for everyone that raises money for different events each year. This year the Reverse Game is raising money for Veterans. Each person who works towards this goal has their own reasons for wanting to be a part of something so special. Emma said, “This charity event benefits so many great causes and it’s always a fun and exciting event that a lot of people look forward to.” Emma is a caring person who is committed to making this event a success no matter what.
The Reverse Basketball Game is a much anticipated event that requires significant effort and dedication from everyone who is involved. While obstacles arise with any event, whether it’s recruiting enough players or managing tight timelines, the hard work will always pay off in the end. This event not only brings two different school communities together, but raises money for meaningful causes, such as supporting veterans this year. Emma Lippert’s commitment to ensuring the success of this event reflects the spirit of teamwork and generosity that makes the Reverse Basketball Game a cherished tradition.
