Mrs.+Curci+Retiring+Next+Year

McKenzie Powell
Mrs. Curci, Gym and Health teacher

What do you like to do in your free time?

I enjoy so many things. Some include: exercise, dance, ski, handiwork, sewing, and cooking. I love stream fishing which I have been doing for six years, and I love landscaping! I have landscaped all my yard because I love being outside.

Do you have any pets?

I have three cats: Milo, Popcorn, and Midnight!

What is your favorite food?

Any type of seafood!

What is your favorite genre in reading?

I like non-fiction, any true story.

What inspired you to start teaching?
I was in seventh grade and I had a gym teacher that really inspired me.

Why did you pick the subjects gym and health?
I figured out what subject I wanted to do while playing in a softball game. It was seventh grade I was playing left field and it was as plain as day. I realized I wanted to do this
for the rest of my life.

What do you enjoy most about each subject?

I love getting to be active with the kids in gym. I love doing badminton in gym and senior Chris Frowen is my biggest challenger. For health I like teaching kids what they will use for the rest of their lives.

What did you do before teaching?

I was a certified athletic trainer here, at Greater Latrobe for ten years.

How long have you been teaching?

I have been teaching for about 31 years.

What is you best experience you had at Greater Latrobe?

I loved teaching advanced Physical Education. In that class we would go on field trips like rock climbing, spelunking, etc… It was a fantastic teaching environment for the teacher and kids. I also loved winning the championship for cross country. That was the first time our cross country team won.

What are you going to miss about teaching?

Just and only the kids.

What do you dislike about teaching?

I dislike the bells for classes! It makes me feel like they are training rats.

What sports have you coached?

I have coached cross country, softball, track & field, swimming, diving, volleyball, and cheer.

Who was your favorite athlete for the school?

Natalie Bower! She was a cross country winner, but what I like most about her was personality!

What is your favorite sport?

To coach it would be cross country, because you don’t have to pick kids to participate. Everyone gets to participate 100%. To watch I would say gymnastics.

What are you going to do after you retire?

Whatever I want, whenever I want. If I want to wake up at 10am then I will wake up at 10am! I will love the freedom of being able to do whatever.
