The Latrobe Girls Basketball team took the court on Friday, December 6th, Monday, December 9th, and Thursday, December 12th. As the girls warm up, they always keep an eye out for certain girls on the other team that sticks out to them. They wanted to look out for them because they needed to be aware during the game to stop them from scoring.
Friday, December 6th they took on the Plum Lady Mustangs. Even though this game wasn’t a section game, the girls were still determined to win against the Lady Mustangs. Kenzie Johnson said, “Going into this game we thought it wouldn’t be a hard game, but we were wrong, it was a very difficult game.” During the game, the girls realized that they had to step up and work better as a team. Maggie Maiers stated, “At the end of the 2nd quarter we realized that we need to have better communication.” The girls needed to step up in their defense and be aggressive. Sophomore Jules Bulebosh took on that and stepped up her defense and got player of the game. The Latrobe Wildcats won 64-61, with the top scorers being Carley Berk with 20 points and Maggie Maiers with 16 points. The girls were excited about this outcome and were relieved that they were able to win in a difficult game.
Monday, December 9th the girls faced Washington High School, winning 64-23. Going into this game the girls knew that it wasn’t going to be a very difficult game, but still needed to give it their all. Haley Marucco said, “Going into this game I wanted a good team win going into section.” The girls went off their last game talking about having better communication and teamwork. Senior Brylee Bodnar worked extremely well at blocking the other team from scoring and had excellent defense. Carley Berk and Kenzie Johnson had foul shots and made almost everyone, which is a good way to get the score up. The girls worked very hard to come out with a win and took the game seriously knowing that their next game was the first section game.
Thursday, December 12th, the Latrobe Lady Wildcats had their first section game against McKeesport. They were nervous going into it because it was their first real section game.
