Throughout Latrobe’s history, the theatre program has been known to have some outstanding performances and shows that easily entertain everyone. When it comes to the fall play Lend Me a Tenor is a comical and fun addition to the list. Eight Wildcats get a chance to express stories through their acting this fall.
This convivial plot begins with a famous opera singer. He gets a chance to perform in a big show but suddenly falls ill. He gets tranquilized with drugs and alcohol together and is unable to perform. Looking to find someone to take his place, a little assistant manager of a company takes on the role and starts his adventure.
Having a play with so few parts can be a big challenge when putting together a show. “I kind of like it because it makes it really tight-knit. It’s a really close group of friends coming together to make something happen. It’s also really hard because if someone is not there then it’s hard to rehearse without them,” Izzy stated.
Getting into character is a key piece to any performance. “I think she’s a lot like me personality-wise. She’s very bubbly and outgoing so I’m going to try to find myself in her, but also add some extra sweetness and softness to her as well,” said Izzy.
The preparation started back in September, with the cast most recently practicing every night.
They are working to wrap up and rehearse with everything being put together to work toward the big day and memorize everything with the few numbers they have.
Senior Izzy Keslar takes on a leading role as Maggie and is determined to make this an exemplary performance. “I’m really excited but also scared because it’s my last one. I really want to make it one to remember. I was super excited when I saw that I got a lead and am so grateful to have this opportunity to have this last memory,” said Izzy.
These seniors are ready to act with passion and heart to leave their careers with a lasting effect. They know the impact an outstanding performance can bring and are working to make this show the best yet.
Having a cast that works together harmoniously is something special to be a part of. “They are all super close friends. When the cast came out I was like ‘Ok this is gonna be great’,” said Izzy, “It was great to see everyone you already know and just know how they act and how to feed off of each other and make something out of it.”
This is a very exciting occasion and something to look forward to. The play will be held on Saturday, November 9, at 7:30 pm and Sunday, November 10, at 1:30 pm.
