The Greater Latrobe Drama Club’s cabaret is a unique fundraiser that is sponsored by the drama club boosters to raise money for the spring musical, and also gives students the opportunity to choose a song and perform it in their own direction.

“I think that the cabaret went pretty well, I would say that it gave students a good opportunity to show their singing abilities and overall it was a great experience not only for the singers but the audience perceived it quite well,” said senior Nathen Sushura.

Arranged by senior Jiannia Kaczmarkiewicz, this year’s cabaret was a huge success. In total fifteen students participated and showcased their talents.

“Being one of the top fundraisers for the Drama club, I feel that this year’s Cabaret event went very well. The student participation was great and everyone truly did such a wonderful job with their performances. We had a number of students who sang songs of very familiar artists like Taylor Swift, Queen, Miley Cyrus, etc. The event had a really good turnout and I would say it was an overall success,” said Kaczmarkiewicz.

Of the acts in the show some students sang solos and some opted to sing in a small group. One student, junior, Even Frescura chose not only to sing for the audience but also to show off his trombone skills playing La vie en Rose by Louis Guglielmi.

The cabaret is unique in the sense that students play to their strengths. The show has no set style or song requirements so students sing what they know suits their voices and character.

Students prepared for weeks leading up to the cabaret.

“Everyone in my group individually found music and learned their notes and rhythms. We got together as often as possible. We all had really busy schedules so we did what we could,” said sophomore Elise Ruggery.

Come show time all the hard work pays off when the singers cut off their last note, leaving no question if the time put in was a waste because students could take the time they still had in the spotlight to soak in the praise and bask in their accomplishments.

Driven by a passion for leadership and learning, Karlee Clark, a junior at Greater Latrobe, is a returning member of The High Post staff. She originally joined to explore her love of writing and is continuing to dive into her passion for sports photography and to help guide new members. Karlee’s interests include archery, which she's enjoyed for over six years, reading, writing, journaling, singing, and playing the flute and guitar among a handful of other instruments. She’s actively involved in the chamber choir, wind ensemble, pep band, and drama club, where she participates in the spring musicals. This year, she takes on the role of choir secretary. Karlee also plays as a defensive specialist for the Girls Varsity Volleyball team, where she values the teamwork and inside jokes and memories shared with the team. She is also a committed manager and statistician to the boys volleyball team dedicating an unimaginable number of hours analyzing stats and doing anything to help out at practices. Leadership is a central part of Karlee’s life. She’s a member of the Lighthouse Leadership team and has been a student council representative since elementary school, currently serving as secretary having just stepped down from student store manager. Her love of learning extends to the forensics team, where she’s competed in persuasive essay and impromptu speaking, qualifying for the state competition in both her freshman and sophomore years. Beyond school, Karlee is committed to volunteering, always eager to make a difference in her neighborhood.
