In the halls of Greater Latrobe High School, we see a new stunning shrug brought to life by the talented Penelope Wetzel. Her beautiful stitches and yarn reflecting personality. Penelope started crocheting over the summer and her creations keep blooming.
Penelope started learning from watching TikTok and YouTube videos. She says, “It’s definitely a lot easier than you would think and once you learn a couple of stitches you can almost make anything.¨
Penelope’s first creation was a flower pot that could hang from her car mirror, since then Penelope’s skills have advanced and she can now make shrugs, bouquets of flowers, and many other creations. Penelope spends her free time learning different techniques and learn new things to crochet.
She enjoys crocheting because she gets to make homemade and personal gifts for her family and friends, “I like to make shrugs and little decorations for my family and friends,” Penelope notes. Penelope puts her time and effort into every little stitch she does. She is a perfectionist, so she wants them to be perfect.
Penelope encourages people who haven’t tried it not to knock it. “If you do not know how to do something there’s a million videos out there that can teach you and it’s free.” There are so many different things you can make and so many different new creations. Your imagination is limitless.
